My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD last year when she turned 6. For me, it was a relief to get the diagnosis, because I had known she had ADHD since she was 3. I could finally get some help. I have ADHD as well, and I could see some similar symptoms as my ADHD symptoms.
We put her on ADHD meds right away, she started on Quilivant. Quilivant is a new ADHD med, actually, its not really new, its just a new form of ritalin, or methylphenidate, it just comes in liquid form to help those who can't swallow pills. She was on that for a while, and it was working great, but it just didn't last long enough. So, we changed her to Vyvanse, and it worked a little longer.

I know that some people would rather try natural methods before trying meds, but I've had a long time to think about this, and did try some natural methods before her diagnosis. I would rather have her on meds and doing well in school right away than take time experimenting with natural methods waiting for something to work.
The Vyvanse is working great for H. I don't get as many phone calls from school and her teachers have given me great compliments about her. The only thing that was a problem was the bus, and that was because the Vyvanse was wearing off. She also had problems after school and trouble falling asleep at night.
I decided to take her back to the doctor and ask her about something for the evening. She had mentioned a med at previous appointments that would help with the comedown from the Vyvanse. It is called Intuniv, which is an ADHD med that is meant to work with a stimulant. It seems like some of the side effects should counteract some of the ones from Vyvanse. It should help with her sleeplessness because it causes tiredness, and also help with loss of appetite and weight loss, because it actually makes you gain weight.
She just started it a few days ago, and she seems to be doing well on it. It also seems like she is not experiencing any tiredness. I am going to watch over the next couple weeks and see how it goes. It is supposed to help with hyperactivity and impulsivity.
